Dallas, TX – A cloud of grief has descended upon the South Dallas community after the tragic and senseless killing of 53-year-old Jaime Alejandro Rokkett, the well-known and deeply loved owner of Cookies ‘N Smoothies, a popular kiosk inside The Shops at RedBird.
According to Dallas police, the shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at the shopping center on the 3600 block of West Camp Wisdom Road. Paramedics from Dallas Fire-Rescue responded swiftly, but Rokkett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have described the incident as a targeted act of violence, not a random shooting. Investigators confirmed that the suspect was someone Rokkett knew personally and had a documented history with, including a restraining order he had previously filed. Witnesses said the two engaged in a heated argument moments before the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot Rokkett at close range.
The suspect fled the scene but later turned herself in to Arlington Police. Her name has not yet been released, and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
In the hours following the tragedy, an outpouring of shock and sorrow has flooded the community. Customers and fellow vendors at The Shops at RedBird described Rokkett as a kind-hearted businessman who treated everyone with warmth and respect. His kiosk, Cookies ‘N Smoothies, was more than a place to grab a treat—it was a gathering point filled with music, laughter, and conversation.
“He had this incredible way of making you feel like family, even if you were just stopping by for a smoothie,” one shopper shared tearfully. “He was a bright spot in this community.”
The management of The Shops at RedBird released a statement Tuesday evening, expressing heartbreak over the loss and vowing to support the ongoing investigation. “We are devastated by the tragic loss of a beloved member of our business family,” the statement read. “Our thoughts are with Jaime’s loved ones during this incredibly painful time.”
The center emphasized that the shooting was an isolated incident and noted the presence of 24/7 security and surveillance. However, officials said they are now reviewing all procedures to further ensure public safety.
U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Dallas) joined the chorus of condolences, posting on social media:
“My heart is with the loved ones of the victim. Jaime Rokkett was a part of a growing movement in South Dallas—bringing opportunity, entrepreneurship, and joy. His loss is devastating.”
As Dallas mourns, so many are left grappling with the sudden absence of a man whose kindness and entrepreneurial spirit uplifted those around him. Jaime Alejandro Rokkett was more than a business owner—he was a mentor, a friend, and a symbol of what was possible in a growing community.
He leaves behind not just a grieving family, but a city aching for answers and justice. His memory will live on in every smile shared at his kiosk, every sweet treat handed out with love, and in the hearts of a community forever changed by his presence.
May he rest in peace
