Gloucester, MA — The Cape Ann community is mourning the devastating loss of Christopher Joseph Dailey, a beloved son, brother, teammate, and friend, who tragically passed away on June 30, 2025, from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was just 18 years old.
Born in Beverly and raised in Gloucester, Chris was a vibrant young man whose warmth, energy, and joy for life left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. A proud graduate of the Gloucester High School Class of 2025, he was preparing to begin his next chapter as a business student at Coastal Carolina University this fall.
Chris’s passion for hockey defined much of his youth. Having learned to skate at just two years old, he dedicated himself fully to the sport, earning a spot on Gloucester High’s varsity hockey team all four years. He served as co-captain during his senior season and was recognized as Defenseman of the Year—a testament not just to his talent, but to his leadership and unwavering drive.
Outside the rink, Chris was a scholar and a friend to all. He was a member of the National Honor Society, known for his warm heart, his magnetic personality, and his ever-present smile that could light up any room. He was the kind of person who lifted others simply by being himself—offering laughter, support, and love without hesitation.
“He was the life of the party, but he was also the first to show up when someone needed help,” said a close family friend. “He had that rare, beautiful mix of spirit and soul.”
Chris’s adventurous nature took him from the beaches of Cape Ann to the mountains, on fishing trips, ski days, and dirt bike rides. But his favorite place was always surrounded by the people he loved most—his family and friends. He adored his parents, Rich and Nicole Dailey, and shared an especially close bond with his sister, Rachel, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories.
The grief surrounding Chris’s passing has rippled across the community. From teammates to classmates, teachers to coaches, and all those who knew him—his absence is deeply felt, yet his impact remains ever-present.
A Funeral Mass honoring Christopher’s life will be held on Thursday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Ann’s Church, 74 Pleasant St., Gloucester, followed by interment at Beech Grove Cemetery in Rockport.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Chris Dailey Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Cape Ann Savings Bank, 109 Main Street, Gloucester, MA 01930, to help carry forward his legacy of excellence, kindness, and community spirit.
Chris Dailey’s story was just beginning, and though it ended far too soon, the love he gave and the lives he touched will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a light in this world—and that light will never be extinguished.
