Los Angeles is battling multiple devastating wildfires, forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate as firefighters struggle to contain the blazes. The rapidly spreading fires are fueled by Santa Ana winds and extremely dry conditions, with authorities stating that bringing the fires under control is currently impossible.
Four major fires are raging across the LA area, with the Palisades fire being the largest and most destructive. It has ravaged picturesque suburbs, destroying over 1,000 buildings and displacing thousands of residents, including many Hollywood stars.
The Eaton fire has claimed five lives and spread to over 10,000 acres, while the Hurst fire has triggered evacuation orders in neighboring Santa Clarita. The Woodley fire, the latest to break out, has shrunk to 30 acres in size.
The Palisades fire has spread rapidly, intensifying in a matter of hours and covering an area comparable in size to central London or large areas of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. Satellite images capture the massive plume of smoke drifting out to sea off the California coast.
The devastating impact of the fires is evident in before-and-after images of neighborhoods, including the Jewish Temple in Pasadena, which has been reduced to ashes.
