Tulsa Radio Legend Brent Douglas Passes Away at 69
Brent Douglas, a beloved Tulsa radio host known for his hilarious prank calls as Roy D. Mercer, has died at the age of 69. The cause of his death remains undisclosed.
As Roy D. Mercer, Douglas entertained audiences with his thick southern drawl, outlandish complaints, and signature catchphrases like “How big’a boy are you?” and “How’d you like an a**-whoopin’?” His prank calls often ended in laughter, revealing that a friend of the unsuspecting victim had set them up.
Douglas’s character was first introduced on KMOD, where he co-hosted with Phil Stone for nearly three decades. The duo’s prank calls became incredibly popular, leading to the release of over 20 comedy albums between 1996 and 2013. They sold an impressive six million units by 2000.
The character’s success also spawned a song and video, “How Big’A Boy Are You,” featuring Charlie Daniels. Douglas even made a brief appearance in the 2001 film “Daddy and Them,” starring Billy Bob Thornton.
After Phil Stone’s passing in 2012, Douglas retired the Roy D. Mercer character, stating that he couldn’t continue without his partner. Douglas’s legacy as a radio host and prank call master will be deeply missed
