Former US Attorney Jessica Aber was found dead at her Virginia home on March 22, at the age of 43. Police responded to a call about an unresponsive woman at a home on Beverly Drive in Alexandria, Virginia, around 9:18 a.m. and found Aber dead inside ¹.
Aber served as the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from October 2021 to January 2025. During her tenure, she oversaw a staff of around 300 prosecutors and handled federal prosecutions in the state. She was also a proud Virginian, having attended high school and college in the state.
The circumstances surrounding Aber’s death are still under investigation, but officials believe it may be related to a longstanding medical issue. Two sources close to the investigation said the death appears to be from natural causes, with no indication of foul play ¹.
Aber’s colleagues and officials have paid tribute to her, describing her as an exceptional leader, mentor, and prosecutor. US Attorney General Pam Bondi said the loss was “deeply tragic,” while Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares praised Aber’s career of public service, which included her work with Ceasefire Virginia
