CAROL STREAM, IL β In a moment that has shattered hearts and silenced laughter, the community of Carol Stream is mourning the devastating loss of Kobe Rayden Maltizo, a vibrant, kindhearted 12-year-old boy whose life, though brief, was filled with immeasurable love, laughter, and purpose. Kobe passed away unexpectedly on the morning of July 12, 2025, leaving behind a family, a team, and a town forever changed by his absence.
Born on April 17, 2013, Kobe was the beloved son of Annamarie Cadapan Merced and Guiffre Ryan Maltizo, and the deeply adored little brother of Kayla, RJ, Christian, and Kenny. A boy with boundless energy and a spirit that could brighten even the darkest days, Kobe brought joy wherever he went β whether through his booming laugh, his caring nature, or the playful charm that endeared him to all who knew him.
To his loved ones, Kobe was more than a child β he was a spark of light. A jokester at heart, he was lovingly known as the “goofy, loud one,” always ready with a one-liner, a silly dance, or a contagious giggle that could turn an ordinary moment into an unforgettable memory. He was a boy who loved deeply, laughed freely, and lived fully.
Kobe’s love for sports was fierce and unwavering. As a proud player for the Carol Stream Panther Youth Football Team and a determined wrestler for Stratford Middle School, he gave every game his all. Coaches admired his talent, humility, and team-first attitude. Teammates looked up to him β not just for his athleticism, but for his loyalty, leadership, and heart. He dreamed of going pro one day, a dream he chased with grit, hope, and the support of his family and friends.
But Kobe’s greatest gift wasn’t just what he did β it was who he was. He had a rare ability to make people feel seen, loved, and included. With his siblings, he shared a constellation of bonds: late-night talks with Ate Kayla, sports chats with Kuya RJ, an inseparable closeness with Christian, and endless giggles with little Kenny. These relationships werenβt just special β they were sacred.
Kobe was also a treasured friend, the kind who never let you feel alone. Whether gaming late into the night, biking around the neighborhood, or casting a line on a sunny day, he brought a warmth that only a soul as pure and joyful as his could provide. His circle of friends, coaches, teachers, and neighbors now grieve a hole that cannot be filled.
As the community prepares to say their goodbyes, they also prepare to celebrate a boy who, in just 12 short years, gave them a lifetime of love. Kobeβs visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 22nd, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bucaro Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bloomingdale. Stories and remembrances will be shared in his honor. The Funeral Mass will follow on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 10:45 AM at St. Isidore Parish.
Kobe Rayden Maltizo may have had a short time on this earth, but his impact stretches far beyond his years. His laughter still echoes. His love still surrounds us. And his memory β so full of light and goodness β will be cherished forever.
Rest gently, dear Kobe.
You were a gift to this world, and your legacy of love will never fade.
