Shippensburg, PA — The Shippensburg community is reeling from the heartbreaking and sudden loss of Greggory “Gregg” Whitcomb, a beloved resident, respected tax professional, and former standout student-athlete. Gregg passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy defined by integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to every role he embraced — as a son, a mentor, a coach, and a leader.
Originally from Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, Gregg made an enduring impact from an early age. A graduate of Shippensburg University, he was known not only for his talent on the soccer field, where he played 54 matches and captained the Raiders with grit and grace, but also for his exceptional academic accomplishments. His pursuit of excellence in both arenas earned him accolades such as All-PSAC Second Team, Capital One Academic All-District honoree, and the NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award.
Gregg’s passion for education extended far beyond his own achievements. At Shippensburg University, he served as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and gave generously of his time to programs like Special Olympics, One Night, One Wish, and Athletes Got Talent. Those who knew him describe him as humble, driven, and deeply committed to making a difference — whether leading in a boardroom, mentoring athletes on the soccer field, or volunteering within the community.
Professionally, Gregg excelled as a Certified Public Accountant, ultimately rising to the position of Tax Manager at Brown Plus in Camp Hill. His colleagues remember him not just for his technical expertise, but for his kindness, integrity, and approachability. In a moving tribute, Brown Plus shared: “Gregg was more than just a colleague; he was a son, a brother, a mentor, a coach, and a friend – and most of all, he was caring.” His presence uplifted every environment he was a part of.
For eight years, Gregg returned to his alma mater in another deeply personal role — as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer team. Through his guidance and quiet leadership, he helped shape the lives of countless young athletes, passing on not just skills, but values of perseverance, teamwork, and heart.
Gregg’s death is an immeasurable loss to the many communities he so loyally served. His impact was quiet but profound, his accomplishments significant yet always carried with humility. Those who knew him will remember the small moments — his steady encouragement, his unwavering reliability, and the warmth behind his calm demeanor.
In mourning Gregg Whitcomb, Shippensburg and beyond mourn not just a gifted professional and athlete, but a man who lived his life with purpose, compassion, and an enduring commitment to others. He leaves behind a legacy that will live on in the lives he shaped and the hearts he touched.
Gregg will be deeply missed, and never forgotten.
