Raleigh, NC β The North Raleigh Arts & Creative Theatre (NRACT) is mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of its most cherished members. Xander Barnes, a devoted volunteer, beloved friend, and vibrant spirit within the NRACT family, has passed away, leaving a deep and lasting ache in the hearts of all who knew him.
Xander grew up within the walls of NRACT, giving his time, his talents, and his boundless warmth to a community he so deeply loved. His dedication was evident in every task he undertook, from late-night cleanups to backstage support, and his hard work and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
In recognition of his unwavering service, Xander was named the very first recipient of the “Elizabeth Grimes-Droessler Volunteer Award” β an honor no one earned more wholeheartedly. His tireless energy and passion for making the theatre a welcoming space became the stuff of legend. So well-known was his enthusiasm for tidying up that a new term was born in his honor: to βXanderizeβ β a fitting tribute to someone who put so much love into even the smallest of tasks.
More than just a volunteer, Xander was the heart and soul of NRACT β a source of wit, laughter, and comfort. His absence is a void that cannot be filled.
“Xander made this place feel like home for so many of us,” one NRACT member shared. “He was the kind of person who always showed up, always cared, and always made us smile. Itβs impossible to imagine this place without him.”
As the NRACT community grapples with this devastating loss, they remain united in their love for the young man who gave so much of himself to the theatre and the people within it.
Rest easy, Xander. Your light, your laughter, and your legacy will forever echo through the halls you helped build. We will love you always.
