Israeli Military Destroys Hezbollah Tunnel, Seizes Weapons in Southern Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have discovered and destroyed a 300-foot-long underground tunnel used by Hezbollah’s Radwan Forces as a terrorist hideout in southern Lebanon.
Tunnel Discovery and Weapons Seizure
The IDF located the tunnel during recent operations and, with the assistance of the Yahalom Unit, cleared it of explosives and threats. Inside the tunnel, troops found rifles, machine guns, anti-tank missiles, and observation systems, which were subsequently confiscated and destroyed.
Additional Discoveries
The IDF also discovered an anti-tank missile stockpile and heavy machine gun positions aimed at IDF posts near the tunnel. Furthermore, the tunnel was found to be connected to a Hezbollah command center containing rockets used to fire at Israel during the war.
Ceasefire Agreement and Ongoing Tensions
The discovery comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, despite a US-brokered 60-day ceasefire agreement. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFL) has called for Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon, citing violations of the ceasefire agreement.
International Response
UNIFL has urged the timely withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military is reviewing UNIFL’s criticism, while Lebanon’s army is following up with UNIFL and the ceasefire supervisory committee regarding Israel’s ongoing operations in southern Lebanon.
