Elderly Man in Critical Condition After Catching Fire at Manhattan’s Penn Station
A 67-year-old man is fighting for his life after suffering severe burn injuries when he caught fire inside Manhattan’s Penn Station on Friday evening.
Incident Response
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving a call about a man on fire at approximately 8 p.m. ET. MTA police officers found the victim with burn injuries to both legs and his upper body.
Investigation Underway
The man was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. The NYPD and MTA police are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.
Recent Similar Incident
This incident comes on the heels of a horrific crime in Brooklyn, where a woman was set on fire and killed on a subway train. Sebastin Zapeta, 33, has been charged with murder and arson in connection with the incident. Zapeta, an undocumented immigrant, had previously been deported in 2018 but re-entered the country illegally.
