SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation (OACAC) has announced a sweeping restructuring plan that will shutter seven of its 10 neighborhood centers across its 10-county service area.
The nonprofit, which has long provided critical assistance to low-income families throughout southwest Missouri, said the closures are part of a reorganization effort aimed at streamlining services and adapting to changing community needs.
Shortly after the closures, OACAC plans to launch two new “satellite” offices. Officials say the smaller offices will serve as resource hubs to help maintain access to programs such as housing assistance, energy aid, and family support services.
“This restructuring allows us to continue serving our communities while operating more efficiently,” an OACAC spokesperson said. “Our mission remains the same — to provide hope and resources to those in need.”
The organization has not yet released a full timeline for the closures or identified which centers will be shut down, but officials emphasized that they are working to minimize disruption for families who rely on their services.
Community members expressed concern over potential gaps in accessibility, particularly for rural residents who may face longer travel times once neighborhood centers close.
OACAC said more information, including details on the satellite offices and outreach plans, will be released in the coming weeks.
