GRAVESEND, UK — A heartbreaking inquest into the death of Peaches Geldof concluded with a coroner’s ruling that the 25-year-old television presenter and writer died from a heroin overdose. The hearing, which opened at Gravesend Old Town Hall on 1 May 2014, revealed that Geldof had resumed using the drug just months before her untimely death.
Coroner Roger Hatch delivered his findings on 23 July, confirming that the cause was opioid intoxication. Although no evidence suggested the overdose was intentional, the verdict was recorded as a drug-related death. The court heard that Geldof had been on methadone treatment for two and a half years, but began using heroin again in February 2014. A total of 6.9 grams of heroin was later discovered in her home.
Kent Police officially closed their investigation on 3 July 2015, stating that all avenues had been explored in the effort to identify the supplier of the Class A drug, but no further leads remained.
Peaches Geldof’s death echoes the tragedy of her mother, Paula Yates, who also died of a heroin overdose in 2000. The loss of the young mother of two has left a lasting sorrow in the hearts of many across the UK and beyond.
