NYC Police Arrest Suspect in Connection with Murder of Pioneering Rock Musician Peter Forrest
A 29-year-old man, Sharief Bodden, has been arrested and charged in connection with the beating death of Peter Forrest, a 64-year-old rock musician and former frontman of the Bronx-based band 24/7 Spyz.
Forrest, who performed under the stage name P. Fluid, was found unconscious and beaten inside his private ambulette bus on Monday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, with the medical examiner’s office determining that he had suffered blunt force injuries to his head and torso.
Bodden faces charges of murder, manslaughter, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminal possession of a weapon. Surveillance video showed a man exiting the bus and getting into a separate car with a woman around the time of the incident.
Forrest was a pioneering figure in the Black rock music scene of the 1980s, and his band 24/7 Spyz was part of a wave of Black-led rock groups that emerged during that time. The Black Rock Coalition remembered Forrest as a charismatic and powerful frontman, and his stage presence and dynamic personality were praised by those who knew him.
