Investigation Launched After Second Inmate Dies at UK Prison in 15 Days
An investigation is underway following the death of a 23-year-old inmate, Reece Pryce, at HMP Five Wells prison in Northamptonshire, UK. This incident marks the second prisoner death at the facility within a span of 15 days.
According to the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, Pryce passed away on December 25. Although the circumstances surrounding his death are unclear, it is not believed to be suspicious.
The incident follows the sudden death of 49-year-old Kevin Golby on December 10, which prompted a murder investigation. Northamptonshire Police attended the scene as part of standard procedure for deaths in state custody.
A post-mortem examination did not establish the cause of Pryce’s death, and further toxicology tests are ongoing. The police are not treating the death as suspicious at this time, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
G4S, the security firm operating HMP Five Wells, expressed condolences to Pryce’s family and friends, stating that the incident would be investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
